Highlights & New Arrivals | 6.9.17
Starting off the playlist this week with a focus on some neo-soul and R&B we have at the shop. We head into some classic Brooklyn and New York hip-hop as well as some of our favorite contemporary rap jams, a fun little comparison of Nas covering the Memphis Jug Band's 'On the Road Again' against the original back-to-back, and we transition into some punk and rock we'll have to come early next week.
New arrivals this week from:
D'Angelo — Voodoo (2LP) | One of the high points of neo-soul in the 2000s was this classic album from D'Angelo reissued with new liner notes and on 180 gram.
Digable Planets — Blowout Comb | Digable Planets encapsulates that classic afrocentric sound of New York that we grew up on. Perfect music for the summer vibes.
Lynn Castle — Rose Colored Corner | Leave it to Light in the Attic's Lee Hazlewood Archive Series to refocus our ears on another forgotten gem from Lynn Castle. Some amazing 60's psych pop goodness on this record.
Rancid — Trouble Maker (LP + 7" deluxe) | A lean tour of sound that covers every corner of Rancid's storied history. Our choice jam is 'Bovver Rock n Roll."
Stiff Little Fingers — Inflammable Material | '77 punk rock swagger with an Irish snarl. One of the most pristine punk albums ever made.
See you lot around the shop
